MONTCLAIR, N.J. (June 24, 2025) – Hackensack Meridian Mountainside Medical Center announces the opening of its newly renovated cardiac catheterization lab, a major milestone in the hospital’s ongoing investment in advanced cardiovascular care. The upgraded facility now features the Siemens Healthineers ARTIS icono, a cutting-edge imaging system that enhances the precision, safety, and efficiency of minimally invasive cardiac procedures.
“This new cath lab reflects more than just advanced technology — it’s a symbol of the culture we’ve built, one rooted in collaboration, clinical excellence, and putting patients first,” said Ankit Patel, M.D., medical director of interventional cardiology. “This space empowers our team to deliver cutting-edge cardiovascular care while advancing research, innovation, and education for the future.”
At the core of the ARTIS icono system is a smart imaging technology called OPTIQ, which helps doctors see clearer images during procedures while keeping radiation exposure as low as possible. It automatically adjusts settings based on the patient and the angle of the scan, so doctors get the best possible view with the least amount of radiation. It also includes a feature that helps guide doctors through blood vessels more easily, making procedures safer and more efficient.
The new ARTIS icono floor system is designed to support a wide range of procedures, especially those involving the heart, blood vessels, and certain types of cancer. It’s built to move smoothly around the patient and takes up less space than older systems. This means doctors and care teams have more room to work and can use other equipment more easily.
“The ARTIS icono family of angiography systems will have nothing short of a revolutionary impact on our customers and on the delivery of healthcare in general,” said Lara Barghout, Senior Vice President and Head of Advanced Therapies, Siemens Healthineers North America. “It sets new standards for image quality and optimized workflow in minimally invasive procedures.”
Mountainside Medical Center continues to lead with cutting-edge technology and highly personalized care. Its interdisciplinary cardiovascular team offers a robust program for diagnosing, treating, and managing heart and vascular conditions, including cardiac rehabilitation and advanced diagnostic testing. Since becoming licensed to perform elective angioplasty in 2022, the hospital has expanded its services, participated in clinical trials, and integrated innovative technologies to better serve the community.
“With the addition of the ARTIS icono, we’re opening access to advanced cardiac care right here in our community,” said Tim O’Brien, CEO. “Our patients no longer need to travel outside the area to receive the high-quality, minimally invasive treatments they deserve.”
