Mountainside Medical Center had the honor of welcoming back Evelyn Carson, a former pediatric nurse who served at our hospital from 1948 to 1962. At 98 years young, Evelyn returned to the halls where she once comforted and cared for countless children, sharing warm memories and heartfelt reflections. “It was a wonderful experience here,” she said. “Everyone was so friendly and warm.”
Her surprise visit—lovingly arranged by her sister Valorie Carson—was a celebration of her remarkable life and legacy. She was joined by Valorie, her daughter-in-law Sheila Williamson and granddaughter Canon Paul, making the day even more special. Evelyn, who delivered three of her children at Mountainside, toured the hospital’s newly renovated sixth floor and our mother-baby unit, marveling at the hospital’s advancements. “It’s incredible to see how far the hospital has come,” she remarked.
When asked by CEO Tim O’Brien about the secret to her vitality, Evelyn smiled and said, “The key is to just keep moving.”
We are deeply grateful to Evelyn for reminding us of the rich history we carry forward. Her visit was a beautiful testament to the enduring spirit of compassionate care that continues to define Mountainside Medical Center—for our patients, our community, and one another.
